This is both a table of contents for this Quartz site, and an explainer of my vault set-up, as it also defines folders you can’t see.
- 00 Outer Space: Houses self-referencing notes I need for my Obsidian workflow.
- 01 Templates: Bare templates that plugins like Templates, Templater and QuickAdd will pull from. Very opinionated. At the moment they are unpublishable just because of the nature of templates, but I will work on sharing these in the future.
- 02 Widgets: Contains reusable components like Buttons and dataview tables. Not customizable like templates, but are meant to be used as is. These are functionally useless published until specific plugins are supported, but they’re published here for code-sharing reasons.
- 03 Obsidian Meta: Reference guides & documentation for plugins and tools, like Syncthing. For the purpose of this published vault, it will also contain helper notes for visitors. (Like this vault map!)
- 04 Attachments: Default folder for attachments except those that specifically need to live elsewhere.
- 10 Notebook: Normally contains personal information and references such as journal entries, notes about people (like birthdays) and quick PIM documents like insurance dates.
- 11 Inbox: A landing pad for notes I “need to jot down real quick” before they are transformed into other notes and moved.
- 12 Journal: Exactly what it says on the tin.
- 13 Docs: Majority are PDF attachments of scanned personal documents. I do not actually need to access these within Obsidian, but I have had an easier time finding them since moving them here.
- 14 People: Address book with fewer addresses and more personal things to remember about people.
- 15 Collections: Adapted from an honored concept in Bullet Journaling, which I still do apply in analog. Basically any type of personal list, like “Filipino authors recommended to me by friends”
- 16 Newsletter: Archives of issues from my newsletter, saved as HTML files
- 20 Knowledge: The closest thing I have to a Zettelkasten.
- 21 References: Any note I may want to use while doing work e.g. how-to guides, glossaries and cheat sheets.
- 22 Ideas: Notes which are more for the learny, thinky half of my brain, and not necessarily to guide my work.
- 23 Poems: Poems I like. Not my poems. I try to include a link to source where I’m able!
- 24 Content Maps: Notes which attempt to group together other notes, such as by author (e.g. Mary Oliver) or by topic (e.g. PKM). Other subject-groupings are handled by tags.
- 25 PDFs: For when I want/need to have a PDF resource actually available in Obsidian, whether to cross-reference or to read later.
- 30 Makoltaverse: This is a project folder of my fictional universe WIP.
- 30 Archive: At the moment this contains files migrated en masse from my old vault, but should be sorted into the new structure below.
- 31 Seedbox: New notes for actioning. Most of the time these are ideas or things I want to make sure I already have a note for, even if it contains nothing yet.
- 32 Worldbuilding: This used to be subdivided into things like “Places & Entities,” “Magic”, “History” etc. but for this new iteration I want to try to keep it flat so I don’t crash out trying to sort things neatly.
- 33 Characters: Them.
- 40 Grimoire: Houses notes specific to occultism, although there can and will be cross-linking to notes in 20 Knowledge, as God intended. The structure is still kind of up in the air, so I will leave the subfolders undocumented until I’m a bit more decided.
