The Gamification Project
Key Concepts
- Goals (why) = Extra large experience points (Huge Wins)
- Results (what) = Large experience points (Big Wins)
- Projects (how) = Sum of below
- Tasks (how - broken into 5-30 minute chunks) = Small to medium experience points
- Quests (habit building) = Medium experience points
Example 1:
- Goal: Meaningful decision making
- Key results: +30% productivity / month
- Project: Productivity building
- Tasks: Build advanced gamification, clearly define tasks and projects, etc.
Example 2:
- If your goal was to keep fit, and a key result was to run 10km in one go, then the how would be a running exercise routine to be completed daily
Key Principles
- Scaling experience points for the size of the task (rewards bigger wins)
- Accumulating experience points levels up your character (promotes progression)
- Positive multipliers for early completion, and negative multipliers for late completion (promotes punctuality)
- Break down every task into 30 mins chunks, and do not allow interruptions (promotes perseverance)
- Progress bars help you visualize your progress towards the goal (it’s always easier to run when you know how much you have left)
