The “indie web” is a community name given to “a people-focused alternative to the “corporate web” 1. This is adjacent to my long-rooted interest in software and web development and my recent (≤5 year-old) initiatives to pick it up as a practical skill and potential career choice.

Sub-tracks and topics

  • free & open-source software (FOSS)
  • Self-hosting
  • microapps and microservices, micro-SaaS, indie development
    • microapp: A small, self-contained application with a limited scope. These are often user-facing and provide quick access to specific functionality, optimizing the user interface for a particular purpose or user type.
    • microservices: A software architecture strategy that structures an application as a collection of small, independent, and loosely coupled services. Each service handles a single, focused task and communicates with others via APIs, which allows for easier management, scalability, and updates of individual components.
  • fediverse or federated fubs (ActivityPub, AT Protocol)
  • decentralization
